Reese Witherspoon Cleverly Hides Scar with Hair

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Reese Witherspoon Bangs Scar

“It’s not funny at all,” Reese Witherspoon stated about her accident in 2011 in which she was hit by an 85 year old driver while jogging.

“They said I am very hard-headed because I landed right on my head and I have a scar, hence my new hairdo.” she went on to explain. Luckily for Witherspoon the accident was not fatal and she was able to find a silver lining in the situation by using a new hair style to cleverly disguise her scar.

Scars and birthmarks are quit common and can be an area of insecurity for many clients. Remember this when consulting with your clients about what hair style to choose. While fringe bangs like Reese’s are not going to be the best solution for every client, an elegant side bang or thick mod bangs may do the trick to conceal the trouble area.

When consulting with clients who have scars of birthmarks, remember that it is a delicate subject to bring up. Do not mention the trouble area unless the customer does. In that case, if it is a concern for him/her it is also a concern for you.

If hair is too thin or damaged to cut bangs, hair extensions are a great way to create thick, natural looking bangs.

“I don’t remember much about it, but miraculously, and thank God, I am fine!” Reese explained about her accident. While the accident was unfortunate, Reese made the best of the situation with her new chic fringe bangs.

What do you think of Reese’s new style – do you like her better before or after her transformation?

The Top 5 Bad Hair Habits to Break

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Whether you consciously do them or subconsciously catch yourself in the act – find out what bad habits are keeping you from having the hair of your dreams!

1. Overwashing. Exposing your hair to hot water excessively strips your hair and leaves it looking fried especially if you wear hair extensions. And while there is no magic number as to how often you should wash your hair, there are a few ways you can minimize the amount of washes you subject your hair to. Dry shampoo is a great way to cleanse hair without requiring any water.

2. Touching your hair. This bad habit is most likely subconscious. Touching your hair excessively coats hair with the oils and dirt on your fingertips, leading you to over-wash.

3. Box dye-ing your hair. This bad habit should be a no-brainer. For those of you DIY-ers, think about how many boxes of dye you have had to buy to correct your poor hair color selection. Not only is this over-exposing your hair to more damaging chemicals, but it puts a strain on your wallet. Find an experienced colorist and you will never regret the money you spend.

4. Brushing your hair while wet. If you brush your hair while wet, switch from a brush to a wide-tooth comb. This will allow you gently de-tangle hair when it is in its most vulnerable state.

5. Using cotton pillow cases. Cotton may allow your skin to breathe, but it strips hair of its moisture while you sleep. A great alternative to cotton is satin. Satin helps your hair to hold on to its moisture and you will be amazed at how shiny it makes your hair.

Lauren Conrad Pink Hair Color

Lauren Conrad is no stranger to trying out unexpected hair colors - last year she donned pastel dip-dyed tips. A few weeks ago she experimented with color yet again when she wore a fresh peach color for a few weeks. Lauren went back to the inspiration board again and came out this time with a vibrant pink hair color.

Lauren shared her new hair color with the world on Instagram last Saturday where she posted this photo of herself wearing a messy bun. She later went on to call the ‘do her “Cotton Candy Bun” on Twitter.

Now more than even, hair color is not just down to the basics.

Younger clients and trend-setting customers want more than a foil or a single process color. Semi-permanent hair color is in demand at salons nationwide to add a subtle wash of color or a dramatic all-over color to hair.

If you haven’t done so already, we suggest refreshing your color knowledge and learning new techniques at our next All-Nutrient hair color training course. Just one training course and you will be armed with the tools and techniques you will need to stay ahead of color trends and offer your your customers more than just hair color basics!

Friday, January 13th, 2012

InStyle Magazine recently raved about Crack calling it a, “curiously addictive multi tasking leave in treatment and styling aid”. If you haven’t tried it already, here’s the dish on the latest, most addictive hair treatment on the market.

Crack Before & After

What does it do? Crack is a multi-tasking hair treatment that works as a leave-in treatment and styling aid all in one. It tames fly-aways and smoothes split ends when applied to damaged tresses. When applied before using your heat tools, Crack also doubles as a thermal heat protectant. Crack replaces your shine sprays/serums and leaves your hair smooth and polished looking from morning to night.

How does it do it? This styling aid/hair treatment works from the inside out to heal damage and block humidity from ruining your hair style. Crack uses micro proteins and peptides to surround the hair follicle with a keratin bond that promotes hair health and shine.

UVA/UVB Protection? Yes!

What hair types is it ideal for? Crack is beneficial for any hair type, gender, and ethnicity. While it acts as a finisher and polisher for naturally straight hair, it works wonders on wavy and curly hair types as well .

Find Out Which Hair Extensions are Right for You!

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

So.Cap.USA Hair Extensions

With so many different kinds of hair extensions to choose from it can be overwhelming for even the savviest consumer. And while we strongly recommend consulting with a licensed extensionist before commiting to anything, here is a bit of advice to help you decide between synthetic vs. 100% human hair:

Synthetic hair is cheaper, there is just no other way to put it…but YOU WILL PAY DEARLY in the end. From the day you have synthetic hair put in, you will have to deal with tiny hairs falling out with every brush, every up-do and other daily activities. From the minute they are applied it is a downhill battle and they will never look that good again until you have more extensions put in.

You will also have to set aside your heat tools as synthetic hair extensions are made from plastic (commonly Toyokalon, Kanekalon and monofibre) and will literally melt when introduced to heat. Imagine how hard it is to go a day, or even a few hours depending on the weather, without refreshing your hair style with heat tools – that is what you will run across with synthetic grade hair extensions.

Synthetic hair does not last as long as 100% human hair does. Depending on how often you wash and style your hair, synthetic hair normally lasts only a few weeks to a month. With human hair, you can choose clip-in hair (which can be applied for as short as a few hours at a time) to full on hair extensions which lasts up to 6 months with proper care.

Our best advice? Save up and invest in 100% human hair extensions – the investment will be greater but it will pay off in the long run. 100% human hair extensions can be cut, colored, and styled just like your natural hair which provides you with more options and a more natural look.

If you are a hair stylist who has not yet received your CEU credits, register today for a So.Cap.USA hair extension training course.

Greer Garson Champagne Hair Rinse

Greer Garson Hair

Is your refrigerator full of half finished bottles of champagne after this year’s New Years Eve party? Before you clean out your fridge, put the flat champagne to use as a hair rinse for extra shine and body.

Greer Garson in the 1940′s was known for her vibrant red hair color, which she attributed to her regular Champagne hair rinses. After rinsing her hair with champagne, she would brush her hair 100 times and tie up her hair in a net for the rest of the night.

While we don’t think brushing your hair 100 times is necessary, there is some truth to the cleansing affects of champagne for the hair. In between hair color appointments, advise your clients to try a champagne rinse to rid hair of any product build up and refresh hair color:

How-to Champagne Hair Rinse:

1. Mix one cup of hot water and one cup of champagne in a bowl.

2. Shampoo and condition hair as usual.

3. Pour the hot water and champagne mixture throughout hair – including the underside of hair and the ends.

4. Do not rinse champagne from hair.

5. Pat your hair dry, grab a round brush, and finish with a quality blow out that will leave your hair ultra voluminous and revived.
