Hair Extensions & Prom: Hair Styles for Every Length!

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

We’re officially in the thick of school dance season!  From Homecoming, to Winter Formal, to Prom, to Sadie Hawkins Dances, the time is now to start planning ahead for what you’ll wear, how you’ll do your hair and yes, who you’ll be going with.  When it comes to the all important question of your hair, many people don’t realize just how helpful temporary hair extensions can be for the perfect hairstyle!

So, as you get closer to THE red carpet event of your high school career, why not take the plunge and opt for a dramatic ‘do this year by choosing hair extensions as your go-to accessory.  Whether your hair is short, medium or long, there is a hair style that’s perfect for you.

Here are some tips on Prom Hair and how hair extensions can help:

  • Short Prom Styles – If your hair is too short for a formal look, have hair extensions applied to help give you the length you need for the style you desire.  If staying short, use accessories to spice up your look.
  • Medium Prom Styles – Special occasions are usually no problem for medium length hair.  While they can add hair extensions to make it even longer and more glamorous, you can also use a variety of combs, curlers and straight irons to really make things look formal and special.
  • Long Prom Styles – With long hair, the possibilities are endless.  Up-do’s, slight waves or even sleek and straight.  Add hair extensions to give your hair even more body or to do combination hair styles that are up and down and wavy at the same time.  The possibilities are endless.

Don’t forget just how much hair extensions can help with not just adding length but adding volume as well.

Your dance is right around the corner, how will you be prepared this year?  What hair styles are you leaning towards?  We’d love to hear!

Caring For Your Hair Extensions: Some Simple Tips

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

When it comes to your personal style and the transformation hair extensions can create, it’s clear that they are more of an investment than a purchase. By investing in hair extensions, your hard earned money is going to something that can provide you with beautiful style and fun for a long time…assuming you take care of them properly. That’s right, like any investment, you have to take care of it and hair extension care doesn’t have to be the daunting task that it can sometimes appear to be.

To learn how to properly care for hair extensions, one of the best ways is to be taught by the professionals who applied your hair extensions to you. If you forgot to ask and get a proper hair extension education during your salon visit, worry not. We’ve found some great tips on how to best care for your hair extensions.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  • Wash – Always keep your hair extensions clean. When dirt, sweat and oil build up the hair can tangle. Ask your stylist or salon which shampoo and conditioner is best for your particular extensions.
  • Style – Always use soft bristled brushes and start at the ends of the hair extensions and work your way slowly up. Never use firm or harsh brush strokes and avoid the use of heat as much as possible.
  • Water & Sleep – Wear a swim cap and try to keep your hair out of chlorinated water. When sleeping, never sleep on wet hair. Some stylists recommend gently tying your hair up to prevent tangles while sleeping.

As far as hair care products and hair treatments, always talk to the stylist that applied your hair extensions before making any decisions. Remember, these hair extensions are an investment to your personal style and look, take care of them and they will take care of you!

What are your top hair extension tips?

Celebrity Hair Extensions: Who Does, Who Doesn’t?

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

Real? Fake? Who knows any more. Hair extension technology has taken some pretty substantial and impressive leaps over the past few years and the ability to spot who does and who does not use hair extensions on the red carpet is quite the challenge. We’ve had a “round 1” of this little quiz game before, so today we’re going to test your knowledge once again!

That’s right, the people over at BellaSugar.com hosted another game of “Do They/Don’t They” to help see who can actually tell the celebrities that are faithful hair extension users and those that are all natural. I’ll say this, I fared better on the first quiz, but this one had some that surprised me!

Nevertheless, from Kate Beckinsale to Mandy Moore, Cameron Diaz to Angelina Jolie, some major A-list celebrities are in the quiz and we’d be fascinated to hear how you do. Sound off in the comments and let us know how many you got right, and how many you were surprised to miss! The fact that it’s just so hard to tell anymore is a testament to how impressive hair extension technology has gotten!

Hair Extension Malfunctions: How Do Celebrities Deal & How To Avoid

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Wardrobe malfunctions, since Janet Jackson’s infamous Super Bowl performance, have become something pretty common in the celebrity world.  Something’s always going wrong with dresses, pants, shirts and clothing.  The question is, however, how do celebrities deal with malfunctions of another kind:  Hair Extensions Malfunctions?!  That’s a question that many female celebrities have had to answer, most recently Michelle Williams, formerly of Destiny’s Child.

Recently, while rehearsing for her dance number on the UK show “Strictly Come Dancing,” Michelle had a major hair extension malfunction in which they actually came completely out while doing the tango.  She recovered fairly quickly and the embarrassment thankfully was kept to only a rehearsal and not during the live performance.  If you want to know how it really feels in public, there are plenty of other celebrities who have fell victim to poorly applied or old hair extensions malfunctioning.

I’m sure we’ve all read about the time Paris Hilton’s hair extensions were completely visible and falling out while on the red carpet, or the time Britney Spears had a major hair extension malfunction in the middle of her massive concert.  Accidents happen, but they don’t always have to.  There are ways to avoid the dreaded hair extension malfunction, and proper care and education is the number one way to do exactly that.  By contacting the experts, and making sure the salon you choose to have your hair extensions applied at is certified and well trained, you can avoid potential problems that might plague others and have plagued celebrities in the past!

Hair Color & Extension to Bust Out of Hair Ruts

Monday, November 1st, 2010

No matter what you try, no matter how proud of your hair you are right at this moment, before long you will find yourself in a ‘hair rut.’  It happens to everyone at some time or another, the point where you get so sick of your hair that you need a change, however drastic and you need it fast.  The good news is, with hair extensions and hair coloring, that change doesn’t have to be permanent, and it doesn’t have to be that drastic!

We just stumbled onto some pretty great little tips for making your flat and drab hair look bold and beautiful without spending a great deal of money, time, or making any changes that can’t be un-changed fairly simply.  Here are some simple ways to add some bold and striking changes to your hair with hair extensions and color:

  • Highlights – Fast and simple.  Adding some do-it-yourself or professional applied highlights can give your hair a brand new look and dimension.
  • Full Color & Highlights – Feeling a bit bolder, change the entire color and add some highlights.  Two changes at once for dramatic results that can come out with multiple washes if you use the correct products.
  • Hair Extensions – Shorter hair can instantly be long and glamorous with professionally applied hair extensions.  Add them, watch people’s heads turn!

If you’re stuck in a hair-rut, you don’t have to stay there!  Try some new hair extensions or even a little blast of color and watch how different you look to yourself, and the rest of the world!

Halloween Costume Hater? Hair Extensions Can Help

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

Let’s conduct a simple poll:  Raise your hand if you secretly dread Halloween if and when you’re supposed to get dressed up in a costume?  Would you, like so many other adults, much rather stay home and just hand out candy rather than get all dressed up in a silly costume?  Join the club.  The good news is, you don’t have to wear a silly costume with elaborate dressings to participate and at least show off a little spirit.  With simple hair extensions and a little creativity you can still join in the fun and still be a Halloween Costume hater!

We just came upon a pretty great article that’s packed with tips on how you can, with minimal effort, create a ‘costume’ without actually wearing a costume.  The ideas range from simply doing your makeup much different, or if you’re a man, using makeup to create gory effects, to simply “shopping your closet” for clothes or ideas.  The one area we agree most with, however, is the idea behind their tip of using a ‘head-turning hairstyle.”

According to the article, “A statement hairdo can take you almost all the way to a Halloween getup; all you’ll need to add are accessories.”  We couldn’t agree more.  Adding some simple hair extensions, a dash of color and some accessories in or around your hair can take you from boring to bold in no time at all.

Forget the elaborate, go with simple hair extensions and a mask and you’re all set!

Pink Hair Extensions for Breast Cancer Awareness Still Going Strong

Friday, October 29th, 2010

A few weeks ago we discussed something extremely important on this blog:  breast cancer awareness.  As you might remember, we did a post about salons offering pink hair extensions to help raise money and awareness for such an important cause.   The month of October is almost over, and when it ends it will take National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with it, but that doesn’t mean that time is up to jump on board and help do a lot of good in a little time.

Salons across the country are still offering pink hair extensions, still ranging in shades from pale pink to neon and in a variety of lengths that will fit into any hairstyle.  For only $10, you too can have some applied and have a temporary way of showing your support for one of the most dangerous diseases in the world today.

Thousands of pink hair extensions are being applied across the country as we speak!  You’re running out of time, and excuses for not supporting such a great cause in such an easy way.  Find a salon near you today or contact the experts at Salon Memo to learn more about great hair extensions!
