Top Celebrity Hair Styles of 2011

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

Some exciting new trends emerged in hair this past year. Some we think will be around for the long haul and others we think will fade out with the dye.

Brittany Spears SHE by So.Cap.USA

Hair Extensions – Hair extensions were a staple item for celebrities like Britney Spears, who quickly became the spokesperson for SHE by So.Cap.USA after she donned Extensives (reusable hair extensions) for her I Wanna Go music video. Feather hair extensions also made their way into the limelight in 2011 for stars like Miley Cyrus, Steven Tyler, and Ke$ha.

Rachel Bilson Ombre Hair Color

Ombre Hair Color – It began with Drew Barrymore and Rachel Bilson and was quickly a frequently asked for service in salons across the country. The ombre look can range from grungy looking (resembling roots that are past due for a touch up) to a hint of color at the ends of hair that mimics the suns natural fading of hair color. While some people think this trend has gone on for far too long, others believe is is here to stay.

Lauren Conrad Dip Dye Hair Color

Dip-Dyed Tips – In both natural and fantasy technicolor hues, dip-dyed hair was a less conservative take on ombre. In the summer of 2011 this look went mainstream when Lauren Conrad was seen with pastel colored tips on the red carpet courtesy of stylist, Kristin Ess. Dip dyed ends are great for fashionistas and trend setters looking to temporarily alter their hair color with semi-permanent hair dye.

Blake Lively Braid

Braids – From fishtails to french braids, it became apparent that in 2011 braids could be pulled off with just about every outfit. Summer of 2011 was all about the messy braid, a chic look that tames fly-aways and looks effortlessly sexy.

4 Quick Christmas Hair Styles

Fish Tail Braid

Need some holiday hair inspiration for this weekend? Get glam in a pinch with these 4 easy and quick hairstyles that will help you get picture perfect in less time for your holiday parties and Christmas gatherings.

Clip-In Hair Extensions - Go from short to long hair in a matter of minutes. The great thing about SHE by So.Cap.USA’s Clip-In hair extensions are that they do not have to be applied by a licensed professional. Clip them in for a special event to add more volume, length or texture.

Fishtail Braid – Running from the office to a holiday party this evening? Braids are not just for little girls…Slip on some heels, a little black dress, and a quick fishtail braid which is sure to bring modern sophistication to your look.

Step 1: Seperate hair into two sections and hold the right section in your right hand. With your left hand, select a half-inch section of hair from the outside of the section and cross it over to the inside right section.

Step 2: Repeat step 1 on the left section of hair.

Step 3: Continue steps one and two until you reach the bottom of the hair. Secure the end of the braid with an elastic or ribbon.

French Twist – This is another great on-the-go hairstyle that takes under 5 minutes. To go from the office attire to an instant holiday party chic look, keep a few bobby pins, a small can of hairspray, and a comb in your hand bag.

Step 1: Without securing hair with an elastic, gather hair into a ponytail.

Step 2: Twist the ponytail twice around.

Step 3: Tuck the ends of hair into the middle of the twist and secure with bobby pins. Gently brush over the rest of your hair to smooth fly-aways. Spritz with hairspray to ensure your look lasts throughout the evening.

Low-Side Bun – Like the french twist, this look requires only a few bobby pins and a can of hairspray. To make this look more playful, leave out a few wisps of hair around your face. Vintage brooches or bejeweled bobby pins are another great way to play up this look.

Zahara Jolie-Pitt Gets Hair Extensions

Hair extensions are not just for adults anymore! Zahara Jolie-Pitt (daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt) was recently seen at Cirque de Soliel’s “Michael Jackson: The Immortal” donning long, braided hair extensions.

This is quite a change in look for the six year old who normally wears her hair in a short pony tail. While not every little girl can afford or properly care for hair extensions, it goes to show anyone can wear them and, when done right, they seamlessly blend with your own hair.

While it is impossible to tell which brand of hair extensions Zahara Jolie-Pitt wears, it is apparent her stylist chose human hair extensions over synthetic.

SHE by So.Cap.USA’s 100% human hair extensions are the most natural looking hair extensions on the market. They allow you to cut, color, and style them just as you would your own natural hair. Available in 81 shades (including natural and fantasy), SHE by So.Cap.USA hair extensions can match every hair color and hair texture.

Call us at 847-741-5000 to order 100% natural human hair extensions for your salon today. Or, if you have not yet received your CEU credits, sign up for one of our upcoming training courses.

Make your Hair Color Last Longer!

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011
Kristen Stewart Hair

Even choosing a skilled colorist will not guarantee long-lasting and brilliant hair color a month after your appointment if you do not follow the basic rules for hair color care.

Jennifer J., stylist for Twilight’s Kristen Stewart, in a recent interview with USWeekly recommends using sulfate free shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair to keep your color fresher longer.

But specialty shampoos and conditioners are not the only solution to your hair color fading…in fact, over-washing is one of the main reasons color-treated hair begins to fade. Protect your color by washing less. In between washings, use a dry shampoo to gently cleanse hair without exposing it to the harsh factors of hot water every day.

After washing your hair, your next concern is the moisture levels. Maintaining healthy color and shine is impossible if your hair is dehydrated. A big part of healthy hair starts with your diet and water consumption – choose superfoods like almonds, salmon, carrots, and avacados that provide your hair the essential amino acids it needs to maintain health from the inside out.

Besides diet, daily protection and the proper use of quality hair care products is a big factor for replenishing your hair’s moisture levels. After showering, when your hair is the most vulnerable, spritz on a moisturizing spray to coat your hair from top to bottom. Make sure your spray has UV protection to shield your hair from the sun’s damaging rays (and I know I have said this before – but the sun wrecks havoc on your hair year round not just in the summer). If a moisturizing spray is not enough, coat the ends of your hair with a moisturizing serum or leave-in conditioner.

Have you tried the #1 Permanent Haircolor of 2011?

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

All-Nutrient Haircolor

Don’t succumb to the winter doldrums…warm up your hair this winter! Did you know All-Nutrient organic hair color was just rate the number one permanent hair color for 2011? Find out which award-winning haircolor series is best for you this winter…

Blondes

If you wore a sun-kissed look for summer, try to cool your look slightly by using colors such as All-Nutrient’s 7N – the perfect neutral shade of blonde to help transition you from summer to winter. If you are skeptical to try an all-over color, low-lights are a great way to frame the face and warm your complexion up without requiring much maintenance. Determine what shade of blonde will compliment your complexion this winter by consulting with an experienced colorist who will help you pick the perfect shade.

Brunettes

Now is the time to add some deep tones to your brunette hair. Coppers, warm browns, and mochas will provide you with much needed color this winter. Make sure to consult with a professional colorist to keep your brunette haircolor richer longer. And remember, your hair needs daily UV protection to prevent fading – even in the winter!

For inspiration, check out All-Nutrient’s Tobacco Series of show-stopping hues.

Redheads

Red hair is always in! And red looks especially stunning during the winter months when tans fade and complexions get ruddy. To mix up your haircolor this winter, go one or two shades darker than your regular haircolor. Going slightly darker in tone (it doesn’t need to be drastic) is a subtle change that will make all of the difference.

5R is our favorite shade from All-Nutrient’s Intense Reds line of organic haircolor.

How to Avoid a Hair Extension Malfunction!

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

What’s almost as bad as a wardrobe malfunction? Demi Lovato can tell you…A hair extension malfunction!

During a recent concert, Demi was singing, “All Night Long” and accidentally pulled out one of her hair extensions during the dance. But the show must go on, and luckily she was able to continue her performance…for everyone else, wardrobe malfunctions are not so forgiving.

If you are thinking about making an investment in hair extensions, do your due diligence to make sure you don’t have a hair extension malfunction like Demi Lovato!

  • Find a certified and experienced extensionist. Not every stylist has gone through extensive CEU training to learn how to properly apply hair extensions. A professionally trained hair extensionist will apply extenions that look natural and last for months. To make sure your extensionist has the proper credentials, schedule a pre-consultation appointment to make sure you feel comfortable and ask to see a portfolio of past clients.
  • Choose a credible hair extension brand. So.Cap.USA is a leader in the world of hair extensions with celebrities like Britney Spears, Ashley Elmore, and Lady Gaga backing the brand. So.Cap.USA hair extensions can also be dyed and styled like your own natural hair which gives you a wide array of styles you can choose from. So.Cap.USA also makes many different hair extensions that last anywhere from a single use to up to 6 months time depending on the level of maintenance you want.
  • Buy quality; you only cry once. There is no denying that hair extensions are an investment. And because the good ones can not be found in the clearance aisle of a beauty discount mart, the cost of having them applied should not be a discount price. If you are at a salon that is providing “quality” hair extension services at a “too good to be true” price…you will most likely end up paying for it in the long run.
  • Human Hair vs. Synthetic. Not all hair extensions are created the same. 100% human hair extensions are going to be the highest quality and will blend seamlessly with your own hair. Synthetic hair is plastic based, which will melt with the use of heat tools, limiting the way you can style your hair.

If you are a hair stylist who has not yet completed your hair extension CEU training – attend our upcoming Dec 10th training course today! A So.Cap.USA hair extension training course will allow you to provide a wider range of options to your clients who are looking to switch up their look and try hair extensions!
